It is mandatory to do the final checks before we take electric chain hoist into implementation. Because it is always good to keep precaution to avoid any disaster. Well, the electric chain hoist has some really great tips to check out before the usage.

We have listed the imperatives below:

1. Preparations

Keeping instruction manual handly will save your time and keep you safe. Reading the manual carefully is one of the imperatives you shouldn’t miss. Also, make sure you have completed all the steps in a correct manner and all the parts are fixed properly.

You can prepare for some questions and check the same with the configuration of your chain hoist.

For the operators/workers working in the workstation should match some checkpoints such as:

  • If the electric chain hoist is installed correctly
  • The location of trolley stopper is correctly located on the beam
  • Whether the bolts, nuts, and split are tightened
  • Is cable support strongly fixed over the support arm?
  • The push button cord wire and pulling force support happens on controller suspension?
  • Also, it is very important to check if the cutoff power source or breaker switch before repairing any machine parts

2. Lifting  Test

Lifting is the main task of chain hoisting where we can not leave any single mistake. In the lifting preparation, one should connect the main power switch to the hoist and press down the push button switch first.

Followed by the constant check on-hook button. That is to check if the hook button travels in the wrong direction if so consider the power supply phase is not in the correct manner.

Therefore, cut off the power source and exchange any two phases of the three-phase power at the hoist and observe the traveling direction of the hook. It would be in the right direction and towards the push button direction.

3. Traversing  Test

Traversing plays the vital role in electric chain hoisting. Where you need to test it before the final execution. Check if the control over trolley holds the same direction while traveling or not. Also, make sure pasting the E/W or N/S on push buttons.

4. Limit  Switch Test

Here the referring of nameplates AB or AC where we can set the upper limits and lower limits. Attaching them on the hoisting is important to show the status of the limit switch. If the nameplates are not mentioned means the status is not clear of a limit switch.

There can be mainly two types of limit switches:

(a)  Upper Limit Switch

(b)  Lower Limit Switch

5. Lifting & Falling Brake Test

Lifting should start with a moderate weight and not the too heavy at the very first test. Pressing down the push button switches to lower or descending hook many times will start the lifting. In which, the release of the button should awake the brake to stop the motor from running and weight should stop on the respective position.

6.  Emergency  Stop Button   Test (optional)

This one is the optional testing segment but important to look at. Because there is no certainty about the emergency. Press down the emergency stop button at the time of pressing down the push button switches and check for the hook if it stops the running. Also, the working of the hoist in line with the push button switch should be tested.

Also, keep emergency button to the right direction and release after it pops out followed by repeating the operation. If anyone step fails then check the essentials and stop the button.

For the challenging industrial workstations and their demands, there are many numbers of equipments coming into the play. The electric Chain is used for maintaining the proper flexibility and durability while performing the hoisting.

There are mainly four types of electric chain hoist characteristics named as motor brake, hook & hook, latch and limit switch. Each having a set of niches. The industries may need different hoisting chains as per the purpose of the job and load needs to be lifted. These main four types of electric chain hoisting are enough to deal with such diverse tasks.

Let’s have a glimpse of these four characteristics of electric chain hoisting:

1. Motor Brake

This is the first and foremost characteristic of electric chain hoist i.e., motor brake. It has a rotor brake system that makes it powerful for brake force. Using this type, it is easy to support the load along with the non-asbestos in the motor brake. This motor brake should be used in the places where brake force is needed at great extent.

2. Hook & Hook Latch

As the name suggests, the hook is forged with the carbon steel. This type is mainly used for the overloading situations. So it does not get brake whenever doing overloading. Also, the hook is accompanied by the hook latch that keeps the load in the hooks while load sling loses.

3. Limit Switch

Limit switch stops working on the prompt basis once the hoist gets over lifted. It waits until the hoist is extensively tight and will stop lifting immediately.

4. Friction Clutch

The friction clutch is used for stopping the motor racing. This helps in avoiding the lineages at the time of hoist overloading or maybe not tight sometimes. Here also the non-asbestos is used for the friction clutch.
